Hurley (Nick Nolte), his mentor, asks him to lead a robbery at the Ohio State Fair with Melander, Carlson, Ross, and Hardwicke as part of his gang.
Hardwicke led his crew to steal the diamond after completing the task, which resulted in the death of many of the team. Parker was furious over the incident and denied him his share of the proceeds from stealing the diamonds.
Using this as leverage, Melander convinces Hardwicke to take Parker out to collect more valuables to use as seed capital for his next operation.

Parker was covered in blood when Leslie walked into the room to search. He also takes care of Parker and eventually learns of the man's occupation. As a result, Leslie becomes involved in Parker's struggle against the Melander group who want to kill him.
