Indonesian Stock Exchange Sets Record! Which Stocks Were the Main Drivers?

JAKARTA — The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) closed trading today by once again reaching a new all-time high (ATH). On Monday, November 17, 2025, the benchmark index climbed to a remarkable 8,416.88, propelled by significant gains from key Sinar Mas entities like DSSA and major banking sector stocks such as BBCA and BMRI.

According to data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), the IHSG strengthened by 0.55%, adding 46.44 points to reach 8,416.88. The composite index began the day at 8,397.83 and briefly touched an intraday peak of 8,452.32, showcasing strong bullish sentiment throughout the trading session.

The market’s robust performance was reflected in the breadth of trading activity, with 354 stocks advancing, 287 declining, and 173 remaining stagnant. This dynamic trading environment pushed the total market capitalization to an impressive Rp15,406 trillion, underscoring the significant value growth within the Indonesian stock market.

The upward momentum of the IHSG was primarily fueled by substantial gains in several big-cap stocks. Among these, PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa Tbk. (DSSA), part of the Sinar Mas group, surged by 6.58% to Rp97,200. PT Unilever Indonesia Tbk. (UNVR) also contributed positively, rising 3.19% to Rp2,590 per share. The banking sector, a perennial powerhouse, saw PT Bank Central Asia Tbk. (BBCA) strengthen by 1.78%, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (TLKM) increase by 1.69%, and PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk. (BMRI) grow by 1.47%, collectively reinforcing the index’s climb.

Conversely, not all major players enjoyed the rally. PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk. (AMMN) saw a decline of 4.55% to Rp6,300, while PT Pantai Indah Kapuk Dua Tbk. (PANI) registered a 2.21% drop, closing at Rp14,400 per share. These movements illustrate the selective nature of market gains despite the overall positive sentiment.

In the realm of extreme movements, PT Apexindo Pratama Duta Tbk. (APEX) emerged as one of the top gainers of the day, skyrocketing by 34.51% to Rp191. Following closely was PT Sanurhasta Mitra Tbk. (MINA), which posted a significant growth of 34.44% to Rp242. On the other end of the spectrum, the day’s top losers included PT Puri Global Sukses Tbk. (PURI), which corrected by 14.86% to Rp945, and PT Pelayaran Jaya Hidup Baru Tbk. (PJHB), declining by 14.53% to Rp735, reflecting sharp corrections for specific entities.

Providing crucial market insights, Valdy Kurniawan, Head of Research at Phintraco Sekuritas, noted that the IHSG had already closed higher by 0.76% at 8,434.21 during the first trading session. From a technical analysis standpoint, Valdy highlighted the formation of a positive histogram on the MACD and the Stochastic RSI forming a Golden Cross in the overbought area. Based on these indicators, he projected the IHSG to trade within the 8,400 to 8,450 range during the second session, indicating continued bullish expectations.

This latest achievement builds upon a strong preceding week. The BEI recorded that the composite index for the trading week of November 3–7, 2025, surged by 2.83%, or 230.71 points, to 8,394.59. That closing level had also set a new all-time high for the index, demonstrating a consistent upward trend in the Jakarta stock market.
