The 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), did not attend the Pancasila Day commemoration ceremony held at the Pancasila Building within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs complex in Jakarta on Monday (June 1).
Jokowi’s aide, Police Grand Commissioner Adjutant (AKBP) Syarif Muhammad Fitriansyah, clarified that the former president’s absence was due to a lack of an invitation. According to Syarif, as of Monday morning, no formal invitation—neither in the form of an official letter nor through other communication channels—had been received by Jokowi’s office. “Because of this, he did not attend the event,” Syarif stated in a written response to reporters on Monday.
The flag ceremony, which commemorates the birth of Pancasila, saw a significant gathering of national figures. Among those in attendance were Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and the 5th President of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, who participated in her capacity as Chair of the Steering Committee for the Agency for Pancasila Ideology Education (BPIP).
