FIFA Terlalu Kuat, FAM Diminta Pasrah soal Kasus 7 Pemain Ilegal Timnas Malaysia

The Malaysian Football Federation (FAM) is facing calls to sincerely accept the sanctions imposed by FIFA concerning the involvement of seven ineligible players within the national team. This significant issue has cast a shadow over Malaysian football, drawing scrutiny from global authorities.

The controversy first surfaced in September last year, when questions arose regarding the naturalization process of seven key players in the Malaysian squad. These players, namely Gabriel Felipe Arrocha, Facundo Tomas Garces, Rodrigo Julian Holgado, Imanol Javier Machuca, Joao Vitor Brandao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal Iraurgui, and Hector Alejandro Hevel Serrano, became the focal point of an extensive investigation.

FIFA’s probe revealed that the FAM had utilized falsified documents to facilitate the eligibility of these naturalized athletes. Notably, these seven players had delivered an impressive performance in June, when Malaysia secured a convincing 4-0 victory over Vietnam in a pivotal Third Round match of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Saudi Arabia Qualifiers. Their participation in such a crucial fixture further underscored the gravity of the regulatory breach.

As a result of these findings, FIFA levied substantial penalties against the Malaysian Football Federation. FAM was fined CHF 350,000, equivalent to approximately IDR 7.3 billion. Furthermore, each of the seven players involved received individual fines of CHF 2,000 (around IDR 41 million) and were handed a 12-month ban from all football-related activities, highlighting the severity of the offense.

Following the initial sanctions, FAM attempted to appeal the decision, but their appeal was promptly rejected by FIFA. Undeterred, the federation has now announced its intention to escalate the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), seeking to challenge FIFA’s ruling through an independent judicial body.

However, this move has met with strong opposition from within the Malaysian football community. Husin Deraman, the Secretary-General of Kelantan FA (KAFA), firmly believes that FAM should instead accept FIFA’s verdict. He argues that the federation lacks sufficient grounds to pursue the case at CAS, suggesting that such an action would only further tarnish FAM’s credibility. “From a professional standpoint, it’s clear. Taking this case to CAS will only damage FAM’s credibility,” Husin Deraman stated, as reported by BolaSport.com and NST.com.my. “Looking at the facts, there is no basis for an appeal to CAS. FIFA’s standards of professionalism in handling issues involving its member associations are very high. In this instance, it would be better for FAM to comply with FIFA’s decision.”
