Disqualification of Central Java Women’s Team in Pertiwi Cup: What Scandal?

The journey of the Central Java (Jateng) women’s football team in the Piala Pertiwi 2025 National Round has come to a tragic and abrupt end. The team faced a shocking disqualification after being found guilty of fielding an ineligible player during the Group A preliminary stages.

Initially, the PSSI (Football Association of Indonesia) announced on Tuesday, November 4th, that Central Java had successfully advanced to the quarterfinals as the Group A runner-up. However, this moment of jubilation was short-lived. A formal complaint lodged by the West Kalimantan (Kalbar) team soon upended everything.

West Kalimantan’s report detailed that one of Central Java’s players, Rizky Sry Ekawaty, was ineligible to compete as she had previously represented the East Java team in the same competition during its regional round. This crucial report was submitted to the Piala Pertiwi Disciplinary Committee (Pandis) on Monday, November 3rd.

Following a thorough investigation, the Disciplinary Committee confirmed that Central Java had indeed fielded an unauthorized player, in direct violation of Article 26 paragraph (2) point 2 of the Piala Pertiwi 2025 Regulations. The official decision, which led to their disqualification, was signed by Wendi Umar Seno Aji, Chairman of the Piala Pertiwi 2025 National Round Pandis, in Yogyakarta on Tuesday.

As a direct consequence of this ruling, Central Java was handed a 0-3 defeat against both West Kalimantan and East Java, in addition to being fined IDR 10 million. These severe penalties drastically altered the final Group A standings. Central Java, who initially held the second position with seven points, was forcibly eliminated from the tournament.

In a dramatic turn of events, West Kalimantan rose to become the group’s runner-up with six points, thereby securing their spot in the top eight alongside East Java, who advanced as the group winner.

Meanwhile, in other groups, several teams have already confirmed their berths in the quarterfinals. From Group B, Papua Pegunungan showcased a dominant performance, securing three victories from three matches, with North Sumatra joining them in the second position.

Group C was comfortably led by West Java, who notched two consecutive wins, followed by DIY with three points.

Similarly, Group D saw Banten deliver a perfect performance, accumulating six points, while Central Kalimantan secured the second qualifying spot.

These eight formidable teams are now set to battle it out in the Piala Pertiwi 2025 quarterfinals, scheduled for Thursday, November 6th. (antara/jpnn)
