Health-tech platform Halodoc has unveiled shifting patterns in digital health consultations across different generations. While Millennials and Generation X continue to dominate the platform’s user base, Generation Z is increasingly leveraging digital services to address specific concerns ranging from skincare to reproductive health.

Fibriyani Elastria, Chief Marketing Officer at Halodoc, highlighted during the company’s 10th-anniversary talk show in Jakarta on Monday (May 25) that adult users, particularly women, remain the primary drivers of the service. She noted that Millennials constitute the largest demographic among their total users.

The platform has observed that health needs vary significantly by age. For the adult demographic, consultations are primarily focused on respiratory issues and common daily ailments. “Respiratory-related issues, such as Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI), are the most frequent, followed by common complaints like headaches, fever, colds, and coughs,” Fibriyani explained.

This trend is largely attributed to the responsibilities of adult users who frequently manage the health of their family members, especially their children. By providing a convenient digital bridge, Halodoc enables these users to secure prompt medical advice for their household needs.

In contrast, Generation Z presents a distinct consultation profile. Younger users are more likely to utilize digital health services to navigate sensitive topics such as skincare and reproductive health. Fibriyani believes that online consultations offer a safer, more comfortable space for younger individuals to address personal issues that might be intimidating to discuss in a face-to-face setting.

“We have found that there is a great deal of uncertainty regarding topics like menstrual cycles, which can sometimes be uncomfortable to discuss in person,” she added. This digital accessibility empowers younger generations to take charge of their health without the social barriers often associated with clinical visits.

Furthermore, Halodoc has identified a notable surge in consultations regarding mental health over the past few months. Fibriyani pointed to the inherent uncertainties of modern social conditions and the overwhelming influx of information as key triggers for this growing demand.

As society faces evolving challenges with no clear endpoint in sight, the platform has become a vital resource for those seeking mental health support. “Mental health is a trend that we have seen increasing steadily in recent months,” she concluded, underscoring the platform’s commitment to supporting the holistic well-being of its diverse user base.
