BP-AKR Imports 100,000 Barrels of Base Fuel for Pertamina: What’s Going On?

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has announced that PT Aneka Petroindo Raya, known as BP-AKR, will significantly increase its *base fuel* import quota from Pertamina Patra Niaga. This boost will add another 100,000 kiloliters, equivalent to one cargo, to its supply. This additional procurement follows a prior agreement to import a cargo at the end of October. The initiative is a direct response to persistent fuel scarcity issues observed at BP-AKR petrol stations since August 2025.

Laode Sulaeman, the Director General of Oil and Gas, confirmed this development during a meeting at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Jakarta on Friday (7/11). “Yes (importing again), BP-AKR is adding another 100,000 kiloliters to its imports. This shipment is expected to arrive in the third week of November,” he stated, providing a clear timeline for the new supply.

Currently, BP-AKR stands as the sole business entity to have successfully finalized a fuel procurement agreement through Pertamina Patra Niaga. Laode indicated that other operators are still engaged in business-to-business (B2B) negotiations with Pertamina. “Yesterday, we received information that Vivo gas stations are nearing an agreement, and we anticipate other business entities will follow suit. So, we’ll just wait for further developments,” he elaborated. Shell Indonesia, the operator of Shell petrol stations, is also actively negotiating with Pertamina. Laode added, “Shell just contacted me, requesting a meeting to discuss their situation.”

Despite the ongoing negotiation processes, Laode expressed his strong hope that all involved business entities would swiftly conclude their import agreements. This urgent appeal aims to ensure a consistent and adequate supply of fuel across all respective petrol stations nationwide.

BP-AKR Fuel Imports: Addressing Scarcity (End of October 2025)

In a related development, BP-AKR previously announced that its BP 92 fuel had successfully returned to availability across its extensive network of BP petrol stations in the greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek) and West Java. The company also confirmed that availability would gradually extend to East Java. BP-AKR emphasized that its *base fuel* supply undergoes rigorous quality testing, overseen by trusted independent surveyors. This meticulous process ensures that all received supplies strictly adhere to the high-quality specifications and standards mandated by both the Indonesian government and BP International.

“Our priority remains unambiguous: ensuring BP 92 is readily available and that the quality of our products is consistently maintained. This unwavering focus on quality is an integral part of our long-term commitment to building reliable and trusted energy services throughout Indonesia,” affirmed Vanda Laura, President Director of BP-AKR, in a press release quoted on Tuesday (4/11).
