"They were trained in a military style with the aim of making troops according to the program made by the leadership of this network (JI)," said Head of the Public Relations Section of the National Police Inspector General Argo Yuwono, Saturday (26/12).

Argo said that one of his positions was in Gintungan Hamlet, Bandungan, Semarang, Central Java. The position we found was a two-storey villa surrounded by tall pine trees and quiet from the routine of the residents.

According to Argo, several young JI members were trained in self-defence and weapons, up to the simulation of an attack by VVIP troops in that area. They make the villa as a place of rest.

Furthermore, Argo said there were many JI members who worked to train these young people to be skilled in self-defense, to use swords and pistols, to make arrests and make bombs.

One of his trainers was Joko Priyono alias Karso, who was chosen by Amir or the JI leader Several Wijayanto. Karso was secured in 2019 and is already in convict status with a sentence period of 3.8 years in prison.

Argo said most of the new JI cadres were smart young people from several Islamic boarding schools. Some of the young people claimed to have been taken professionally.

According to him, JI is targeting children with ranks 1-10 in a pesantren to become JI leaders in the future.

"Each batch has 10 to 15 people from Java Island and outside Java Island. A total of 95 people who have been trained and are used to it," said the two-star general.

Based on the investigation, Argo said there were 7 batches with a total of 96 young members who were trained in several locations spread across a number of areas in Central Java.

According to him, several JI members were also sent to Syria from 2013-2018 with funds provided by the network.

"After training here, this young generation is then sent to Syria to study military training and assembly of firearms and bombs. They are preparing this young generation with the aim of becoming the future leaders of this network (JI)," said Argo.

Initially, the National Police's Anti-terror Densus 88 had arrested 228 suspects in suspected terrorism crimes so far in 2020. Of all the defendants, 70 have been tried and 146 others are in the investigation process. Apart from that, the Police succeeded in arresting 23 terrorists from the JI.i network who were surrounded by tall pine trees and quiet from the routine of the residents.
