Muhammad Lutfi was born in Jakarta, August 16 1969 to Firdaus Wadjdi who is of Minangkabau blood and Suhartini who is from Kebumen, Central Java.
Muhammad Lutfi is an alumnus of Purdue University, Indiana, United States of America. After graduating from higher education, he and Erick Thohir, Wishnu Wardhana and Harry Zulnardy founded the Mahaka Group. Mahaka Group is a company engaged in the mining, financial and medium sectors. Muhammad Lutfi also serves as President Director and CEO of the Mahaka Group.
When he was 29 years old, he held the position of Chairman of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association for Greater Jakarta (HIPMI JAYA) in the 1998-2001 period and became the National Chairman of HIPMI in the 2001-2004 period.
In 2005, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) appointed Muhammad Lutfi to become Head of Indonesia's Investment Coordinating Board (BPKM).
Then in 2010, he became the Indonesian Ambassador to Japan and the Micronesian League in August 2010. Muhammad Lutfi is the youngest person to ever work at the Indonesian Embassy and at that time was one of the youngest ambassadors to represent Indonesia internationally.
