President Prabowo Subianto has highlighted a critical disconnect in Indonesia’s development journey, noting that while the nation has achieved decades of consistent economic growth, the benefits have yet to be distributed equitably among all citizens. During the Pancasila Day commemoration ceremony held at the Pancasila Building in Jakarta, the President emphasized that economic progress must be aligned with the values of Pancasila rather than focusing solely on GDP figures.
“Indonesia’s economy has undeniably grown over the past few decades, but has that growth been inclusive? Have all Indonesians felt the fairness of this progress? We must be honest when looking at the reality we face today,” President Prabowo stated during his address.
The President pointed out that Indonesia possesses immense potential to secure the welfare of its people, particularly as a global powerhouse for strategic commodities. From copper, tin, and gold to rare earth metals, coal, palm oil, and nickel, Indonesia is endowed with resources that position it as a major player in the global market. However, he expressed concern that the country has historically failed to maximize these assets for the benefit of its own population, as much of the value-added profit has traditionally flowed abroad.
To address this, the government is committed to placing the people at the core of national development. President Prabowo underscored that Indonesia’s economy must be rooted in the principle of social justice, as mandated by the state ideology of Pancasila. Key strategies to achieve this include aggressive downstream industrialization—adding value to raw materials domestically—alongside efforts to build food security, support village-level economic development, and provide free nutritious meals to the populace.
“Our economy is one of social justice. This is the goal of our entire struggle. Economic growth must be accompanied by equitable distribution; progress must be felt by every citizen,” he affirmed.
Acknowledging that the path toward economic transformation is complex, the President warned that the government expects resistance, particularly from entrenched interests that have long benefited from corruption, smuggling, and illegal economic practices. Despite these challenges, he expressed confidence in the nation’s resolve to make difficult but necessary decisions for the public good.
President Prabowo concluded by noting that success should be defined by the state’s ability to create a more prosperous and equitable society. By faithfully implementing the principles of Pancasila across political, legal, social, and economic spheres, he believes Indonesia is well on its way to becoming not only a prosperous nation but also a country held in high esteem on the global stage, defined by the genuine well-being of its people.
