
The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) closed in positive territory on Monday (May 4), edging up 0.22% or 15.15 points to reach 6,971. Despite today’s modest gains, the index remains under pressure for the year, with a year-to-date decline of 19.37%.
Market activity was robust, with the Indonesia Stock Exchange recording a trading volume of 60.27 billion shares across 2.44 million transactions. The total transaction value reached Rp 21.11 trillion, supporting a total market capitalization of Rp 12,438 trillion. Market breadth was mixed, with 327 stocks advancing, 357 declining, and 134 remaining unchanged.
Notable weakness was observed in the Bakrie Group stocks. PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI) shares fell 4.17% to Rp 230, while PT Bumi Resources Minerals Tbk (BRMS) dropped 3.11% to Rp 780. Furthermore, PT Pantai Indah Kapuk Dua Tbk (PANI) saw its shares dip 1.96% to 8,750.
Although the overall index finished in the green, seven sectors ended the day in the red. The healthcare sector bore the brunt of the selling pressure, sliding 1.63%. Key decliners in this sector included PT Industri Jamu dan Farmasi Sido Muncul Tbk (SIDO), which fell 3.20% to Rp 484; PT Medikaloka Hermina Tbk (HEAL), down 3.48% to Rp 1,110; and PT Jayamas Medica Industri Tbk (OMED), which dropped 3.47% to Rp 278.
Conversely, the cyclical sector provided a bright spot, rising 2.53%. Strong performances were led by PT Sanurhasta Mitra Tbk (MINA), which jumped 13.02% to Rp 382; PT Mitra Adiperkasa Tbk (MAPI), which climbed 6.58% to Rp 1,295; and PT Surya Citra Media Tbk (SCMA), which surged 5.60% to Rp 264.
In terms of trading value, PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO) led the market with Rp 1.32 trillion in transactions, followed by PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA) at Rp 1.22 trillion, and PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI) with Rp 766.77 billion.
