One by one, members of the PSSI Executive Committee (Exco) have vehemently refuted claims suggesting that ten of their members have already approved Shin Tae-yong’s appointment as the head coach for the Indonesian National Team. Several PSSI Exco members have unequivocally stated that the information circulating on various social media platforms is inaccurate and misleading.
Among those who denied the rumors is Khairul Anwar, a PSSI Exco member. Khairul Anwar firmly asserted that there has never been any official statement or collective agreement from the Exco ranks naming a specific coach to lead the national team. “It is not true that 10 PSSI Exco members issued a statement agreeing that STY (Shin Tae-yong) will coach the Indonesian National Team,” Khairul declared in a statement on the ArsipTimnas Instagram account on Friday, October 30, 2025.
A similar strong denial was also issued by another PSSI Exco member, Muhammad. He further elaborated that any decision regarding the national team’s head coach will be officially announced by the football federation in due course. The PSSI has called upon the public to refrain from being swayed by speculation regarding potential candidates for the new Timnas Indonesia coach.

“The Timnas Indonesia coach will be officially announced by PSSI when the time is right,” Muhammad stated in information received by Kompas.com on the same day. With these statements, PSSI also urged the public, media, and national football enthusiasts not to be enticed by rumors or unilateral claims that have not received official confirmation from the federation. PSSI emphasized that all strategic decisions, including the appointment of the national team coach, are made through established organizational mechanisms and are collectively discussed in official forums.
Coach Selection Process Still Underway
The federation confirmed that the process of determining the Timnas Indonesia coach is currently being conducted in a measured and professional manner by PSSI Technical Director Alexander Zwiers, in collaboration with the Chairman of the National Team Body (BTN) and other federation officials. PSSI ensures that every stage of selection and evaluation adheres to the directives of Chairman Erick Thohir, who has stressed the importance of finding the right coach without rushing the decision-making process. Consequently, as of now, there has been no official decision regarding who will manage the Indonesian National Team for the upcoming period.
To date, no Exco meeting has been held specifically to discuss the replacement for Patrick Kluivert in the Timnas Indonesia coaching role. It has been over two weeks since the position of Timnas Indonesia coach became vacant following Patrick Kluivert’s official departure from PSSI.

During this process, Alexander Zwiers will hold discussions with the Chairman of the National Team Body, Sumardji. “Once the list of potential coaches is compiled, it will then be brought to a PSSI Exco meeting, where the decision will be made,” Arya explained.
As of now, PSSI has not announced a new coach, whether a definitive appointment or an interim figure, to oversee the senior Timnas Indonesia squad. The PSSI has also yet to disclose the names of candidates vying for the position of the new tactician for the Garuda Squad. Arya Sinulingga announced that the new coach is expected to be appointed before the FIFA Matchday in March 2026. Furthermore, the senior Timnas Indonesia players will not participate in the November FIFA Matchday, with the PSSI opting to deploy the U-22 Indonesia National Team instead.
