Jakarta Tidal Flood 2025: Schedule & Safety Tips from BMKG

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued a significant warning regarding potential coastal flooding, locally known as “rob,” in several northern areas of DKI Jakarta from November 3 to 12, 2025. This crucial alert aims to prepare residents and stakeholders for the impending natural phenomenon.

According to BMKG’s official Instagram account, @infobmkg, the potential for this coastal inundation is primarily triggered by the convergence of the Perigee phase and a full moon occurring on Wednesday, November 5. These astronomical events are expected to significantly elevate maximum sea levels, thereby increasing the risk of flooding in vulnerable coastal zones.

Based on comprehensive monitoring of water level data and meticulous tidal predictions, the BMKG has identified specific coastal areas highly susceptible to these rob floods. These include Kamal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Pluit, Ancol, Marunda, Cilincing, Tanjung Priok, Kalibaru, Muara Angke, and Penjaringan. Residents and businesses in these locations are particularly advised to exercise caution.

BMKG emphasizes that this anticipated coastal flooding could have substantial impacts on various community activities across port areas and coastal fringes. This extends to vital port loading and unloading operations, daily life in coastal settlements, and the productivity of critical salt and fishing farms, underscoring the broad economic and social implications.

Therefore, the public is strongly urged to remain vigilant and prepared to mitigate the effects of maximum high tides. BMKG also advises continuous monitoring of their official maritime weather updates to stay informed and react promptly to any evolving conditions, ensuring collective safety and minimizing disruption.

Pramono’s Response

In light of persistent concerns about flooding, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo previously highlighted the capital’s efficiency in managing floods and inundation. He asserted that Jakarta’s response time is notably faster compared to surrounding regions, reflecting the administration’s proactive approach to urban water management challenges.

“With all due respect, when compared to neighboring areas, Jakarta’s handling is unequivocally quicker, and its response yesterday was relatively swift,” Pramono remarked when met in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Thursday, October 30. This statement underscores his confidence in the city’s preparedness and execution capabilities.

Pramono, affectionately known as Pram, acknowledged the recurring issue of water inundation in Jakarta, particularly following recent heavy rainfall. Despite this, he confirmed that he had instructed the DKI Water Resources Agency to ensure the operational readiness of all pumps under the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s control, demonstrating a commitment to proactive mitigation.

“As I have repeatedly promised, prior to the recent rainfall, I mandated that all available water be pumped out. Consequently, our water resource infrastructure currently boasts 600 pumps that were meticulously prepared for such eventualities,” Pramono concluded, reassuring the public of the extensive measures taken to combat flooding.

Summary

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued a warning for potential coastal flooding, or “rob,” in several northern areas of DKI Jakarta from November 3 to 12, 2025. This phenomenon is expected due to the convergence of the Perigee phase and a full moon on November 5, which will elevate maximum sea levels, affecting areas like Pluit, Ancol, and Tanjung Priok. BMKG advises vigilance as this could impact port operations, coastal settlements, and local industries.

Previously, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo stated the capital’s flood management is faster than surrounding regions. He acknowledged recurring inundation but confirmed instructions were given to ensure the operational readiness of all 600 pumps under the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s control for proactive mitigation.
