RI Bentuk 150 Batalion per Tahun: Jaga Wilayah, Industri hingga Kilang Pertamina

The Indonesian government is set to significantly bolster its defense capabilities with a strategic plan to establish 150 new territorial infantry battalions annually, deploying them across all 514 districts nationwide. This extensive expansion, articulated by Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, is deemed essential for enhancing the strength and reach of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) across land, sea, and air domains.

Speaking at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (24/11), Minister Sjamsoeddin revealed, “We already have 150 TNI battalions which we refer to as Territorial Development Infantry Battalions. This commitment to increasing our defense footprint will continue relentlessly, with an additional 150 battalions being formed each year.” This systematic augmentation underscores a long-term vision for national security.

The move to add these battalions transcends simple territorial ambition. Instead, it is a crucial measure aimed at rigorously safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity, securing vital national interests, and robustly protecting strategic industries intrinsically linked to state sovereignty. This multi-faceted approach ensures comprehensive defense coverage for critical assets.

Minister Sjamsoeddin emphasized the importance of safeguarding national assets, stating, “For example, Pertamina refineries and terminals are an inseparable component of Indonesia’s overall force posture.” He further asserted that a strong national defense is absolutely imperative not only for preserving state sovereignty and national stability but also for providing a secure foundation to support the government’s ongoing economic development initiatives. Furthermore, these new battalions are intended to significantly bolster the operational capacities of local governments at both district and provincial levels.

In a significant development, Minister Sjamsoeddin, accompanied by the TNI Commander, leaders of the three military forces, and Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR), convened a closed-door meeting today (24/11) at the Parliament Complex. The discussions focused on critical matters pertaining to the effective deployment, comprehensive training, and strategic expansion of military strength. During the session, Minister Sjamsoeddin reiterated his foundational message: “Earlier, I clarified that national defense is absolutely vital for upholding the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).”
