Pati Regent Sudewo has avoided impeachment following a decision by the Pati Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) to recommend performance improvements. This pivotal resolution was reached during a plenary session held on Friday (31/10), which presented the findings of the Special Committee (Pansus) on the Right of Inquiry.
The decision was solidified after 36 of the 49 DPRD members cast their votes in favor of performance enhancement, an option championed by six factions excluding the PDI Perjuangan. Chairman of the Pati DPRD, Ali Badrudin, elaborated on the procedural requirements, stating, “By regulation, a two-thirds majority, or 33 members, is needed to propose impeachment. The six factions advocating for performance recommendations met this criterion.”
The plenary meeting addressed two primary agendas: the presentation of the Pansus’s inquiry results and a session on the right to state opinions. Ali Badrudin affirmed the process’s integrity, emphasizing that it was conducted transparently and neutrally, ensuring its legitimacy under prevailing regulations. He further added that Regent Sudewo has committed to enhancing his future performance, and it is the DPRD’s ongoing duty to oversee this through its supervisory, budgetary, and legislative functions.
Calling on the Public to Accept the DPRD’s Decision
Regarding potential public reactions to the DPRD’s decision, Pati DPRD Chairman Ali Badrudin urged the community to accept the outcome. “Whatever the result, it is legitimate under the law. We respect the rights of each faction. Should there be any criticism directed at us, especially PDI Perjuangan, we are prepared to receive it,” Ali stated.
However, outside the Pati DPRD building, a demonstration involving thousands of people was underway, all demanding the impeachment of Regent Sudewo, highlighting a clear divergence between the legislative decision and public sentiment.
The Special Committee on the Right of Inquiry, established to scrutinize Regent Sudewo’s policies, had been actively working since August 13, 2025. On Friday (31/10), the Pansus officially submitted its comprehensive report during a plenary session presided over by the Chairman of the Pati DPRD Right of Inquiry Special Committee, Bandang Teguh Waluyo.
The Pansus report meticulously detailed 12 key findings concerning various policies implemented by the regent. These included issues such as the increase in land and building taxes, complications in public service delivery, mutations of civil servants, the dismissal of employees at Pati Regional Hospital, procurement processes for goods and services, infrastructure projects, and policies related to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Beyond these, the Special Committee also brought to light more contentious allegations. These encompassed suspected public deception, the controversial change of Pati Regency’s slogan, alleged violations of the oath of office coupled with an arrogant attitude, the problematic appointment of a regional secretary, and governance policies concerning Baznas that were deemed lacking in neutrality.
Ultimately, the meeting’s outcome revealed a split among the factions: the PDIP faction pushed for impeachment, while the other factions collectively advocated for performance improvement from Regent Sudewo, albeit with specific stipulations related to governmental administration and policy transparency.
