BI Balikpapan Launches PESAN 2026 to Accelerate Sharia Economy in East Kalimantan

SAMARINDA — The Bank Indonesia Representative Office (KPwBI) of Balikpapan is set to host the Nusantara Sharia Economic Week (PESAN) 2026. The event will take place from June 27 to 28 at the Main Atrium of Pentacity Mall, marking a significant milestone in advancing the sharia economy.

Robi Ariadi, Head of the Bank Indonesia Balikpapan Representative Office, emphasized that this initiative is vital for strengthening the foundations of sharia finance and economics across Balikpapan, North Penajam Paser, and Paser. “PESAN 2026 serves as a strategic precursor to the Festival of Sharia Economy (FESyar) for Eastern Indonesia and the Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) 2026, both of which are cornerstone national events for sharia economic development,” he stated in an official announcement on Friday, May 8, 2026.

The event is designed to be a comprehensive hub for industry stakeholders. It will feature a diverse array of activities, including showcases for halal-certified micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), thematic talk shows, capacity-building workshops, and creative competitions rooted in Islamic economic principles. By engaging MSMEs, strategic partners, Islamic boarding school communities (pesantren), and academics, the event aims to boost public literacy and enhance the overall competitiveness of the halal industry.

Key agenda highlights include insightful discussions on productive waqf, halal entrepreneurship, strategies for economic independence within Islamic boarding schools, and exploring export opportunities for halal products. Furthermore, participants can engage in practical sessions such as branding and halal packaging workshops, as well as creative contests, including a sharia-focused preaching competition and a halal and tayyib culinary showcase.

Beyond education and networking, PESAN 2026 will serve as a platform to highlight the achievements of Bank Indonesia Balikpapan’s sharia economic programs. Notable activities will include the presentation of halal certifications to local MSMEs, the signing of sharia financing agreements, and the reinforcement of economic self-sufficiency programs for Islamic boarding schools. The event will also showcase innovations in productive waqf auctions, aimed at optimizing the use of social sharia funds.

“As the central bank, our role extends beyond maintaining monetary stability. We act as a catalyst for developing the sharia economic and financial ecosystem. This includes strengthening the halal value chain and accelerating social sharia finance, such as zakat and productive waqf,” concluded Ariadi.
