Rancak Media JAKARTA — PT Reasuransi Indonesia Utama (Indonesia Re) announced it is awaiting a decision from its principal shareholder, the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) Daya Anagata Nusantara (SWF Danantara), regarding the replacement of its President Director.

Delil Khairat, Indonesia Re’s Technical Director, stated that this leadership change could involve either the appointment of an acting director or a new definitive official.

“We are currently awaiting Danantara’s shareholder decision concerning the replacement of the President Director or the appointment of an acting role. Hopefully, we will know the outcome in a short period,” Delil remarked when contacted on Monday, December 1, 2025.

The leadership vacuum at Indonesia Re was previously signaled by the LinkedIn status of former President Director Benny Waworuntu. In his update, Benny announced the conclusion of his 4-year and 10-month tenure at Indonesia Re, describing his journey as President Director as a source of invaluable professional and personal lessons and experiences.

In his farewell message, Benny extended his appreciation to the shareholders—specifically the Ministry of SOEs and Danantara—as well as the Board of Commissioners, Directors, employees, and all stakeholders. He highlighted that the sustained support and collaboration were crucial to the company’s evolution and success.

Indonesia Re’s Business Outlook for 2026

Looking ahead to 2026, Delil stated that Indonesia Re aims to enhance the quality of its risk portfolio. This objective is set against the backdrop of a global reinsurance market that continues to experience a soft market phase.

He elaborated that the company’s primary strategy involves a more selective approach to risk segmentation and partnerships. “In 2026, Indonesia Re will persist in its efforts to elevate the quality of its risk portfolio, an endeavor made more challenging by the current soft market conditions in the reinsurance sector,” Delil explained.

A soft market in the reinsurance industry signifies a phase characterized by an increase in underwriting capacity, intensifying competition among reinsurance companies. This environment typically leads to a reduction in premium prices, more flexible terms and conditions for coverage, and readily available reinsurance capacity, even for complex risks.

While a soft market offers advantages to insurance companies through reduced risk protection costs, it simultaneously puts pressure on the profit margins of reinsurance companies. This necessitates stricter risk selection, greater operational efficiency, and robust risk management strategies. The soft market is, however, a cyclical phenomenon within the industry, capable of transitioning into a hard market when capacity diminishes and premiums begin to rise once more.

To navigate the prevailing soft market conditions, Delil underscored that enhancing data capabilities is paramount for achieving more accurate risk assessments. Furthermore, digitalization is anticipated to play a crucial role in reducing operational costs and accelerating business processes.

“This approach will involve sharper segmentation of risks and partners, bolstered by strengthened data management capabilities and increased efficiency achieved through digitalization,” he concluded.
