Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Muhaimin Iskandar, often referred to as Cak Imin, has announced plans for a significant boost to the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and creative economy sectors. A special budget allocation of IDR 1 trillion is slated to support these vital areas of the Indonesian economy.
This announcement came on Tuesday, May 12th, following a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. Minister Iskandar emphasized that this initiative is designed to accelerate the growth of MSMEs, which are considered the backbone of the national economy. The government recognizes that these sectors require enhanced support, particularly in terms of financing, market access, and promotional infrastructure.
“This year, there will be an additional special budget for all MSME and creative economy activities. I have proposed no less than IDR 1 trillion,” Cak Imin stated after his meeting with President Prabowo.
The additional funds will be strategically directed towards initiatives aimed at fostering business expansion, improving production capacity, and strengthening product marketing efforts. A key strategy involves optimizing underutilized state assets. This includes leveraging facilities owned by State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) to provide practical support to MSME actors.
The utilization of these state-owned spaces is envisioned to serve as platforms for promotion, product displays, and the hosting of creative economy festivals. “The ministries and agencies must continue to facilitate the growth of MSMEs,” added Cak Imin, underscoring the government’s commitment.
Beyond the direct budget injection, the government is also prioritizing easier access to financing for small and medium-sized businesses through the People’s Business Credit (KUR) scheme, aiming to bolster their capital base and overall resilience.
