Danantara Assesses Ride-Hailing Investment Opportunities Amid Acquisition Rumors

JAKARTA – The Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara) Investment Management Agency has confirmed that it remains committed to a disciplined evaluation process regarding all potential investment opportunities. This statement comes amidst growing speculation following reports that the sovereign wealth fund has acquired shares in major ride-hailing companies.

The reports regarding Danantara’s entry into the ride-hailing sector were initially sparked by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. According to Dasco, the Indonesian government, through Danantara, has moved to acquire stakes in these platforms to fulfill President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to reduce the commission fees charged to online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers to a maximum of 8%.

In response to these claims, the Danantara Indonesia Communications Team emphasized the fund’s operational philosophy when contacted on Saturday (May 2, 2026). “Danantara Indonesia continuously evaluates a diverse range of opportunities to fulfill our mandate of delivering meaningful socio-economic impacts for Indonesia,” the team stated.

The agency further clarified that its investment strategy remains rigorous. Decisions are strictly guided by strategic alignment, fundamentals, risk-return profiles, and long-term value creation, all of which are assessed according to established investment phases. This disciplined approach is central to ensuring that any state-led investment serves the broader national interest effectively.

Detailing the rationale behind the move, Dasco explained that by acquiring shares in ride-hailing platforms, the government intends to exert greater influence over operational systems and policies. The primary objective of this intervention is to provide financial relief to drivers who have long faced high commission deductions.

“The top priority is to reduce the fees taken by the application providers. The current rates of 20% or 10% will be adjusted so that platforms only take 8% of the total earnings,” Dasco noted. He added that while the policy regarding the formal employment status of drivers remains under simulation, the government is committed to transparency. Dasco assured that various ride-hailing driver organizations will be actively involved in the policy-making process through ongoing dialogues and consultations.

This initiative aligns with the recently signed Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 27 of 2026, which mandates a reduction in the commission fees taken by ride-hailing firms from their drivers to 8%. President Prabowo Subianto has been vocal about this necessity, stating, “I have stated here that I do not agree with 10%; it must be below 10%.”

Summary

The Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara) investment agency has confirmed it is evaluating potential investments following rumors of stakes being acquired in major ride-hailing companies. While speculation suggests these acquisitions aim to support government directives, Danantara maintains that all investment decisions follow a rigorous process based on strategic alignment and long-term value creation. The agency emphasized that any future moves will strictly adhere to its mandate of delivering positive socio-economic impacts for Indonesia.

The government’s interest in the sector stems from a policy goal to cap commission fees for ride-hailing drivers at a maximum of 8%, as mandated by Presidential Regulation Number 27 of 2026. By potentially securing influence within these platforms, officials hope to provide financial relief to drivers and improve their overall earnings. The government plans to involve driver organizations in ongoing dialogues to ensure transparency and effective implementation of these new commission standards.
