The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has announced a significant breakthrough in its ongoing fight against corruption, confirming the arrest of 10 individuals during a large-scale sting operation (OTT) conducted in Riau. Among those apprehended is the prominent figure of Riau Governor Abdul Wahid, marking a high-profile development in the anti-graft agency’s relentless efforts.
The arrest of Governor Abdul Wahid in the sting operation was officially confirmed by both KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto and Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto. Speaking in Jakarta on Monday, November 3, Setyo Budiyanto stated, “It is true; the process is still ongoing,” as quoted by Antara. This statement underscores the swift and decisive action taken by the KPK, with investigations continuing in earnest.
KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo further elaborated on the operation, revealing that approximately 10 individuals were secured during the raid. He confirmed that a number of state officials were among those detained in the Riau OTT. Crucially, the KPK also successfully confiscated a substantial amount of evidence during the operation, which is vital for the ongoing legal proceedings and prosecution.
According to the prevailing legal framework, the KPK is afforded a 1×24 hour window to determine the official status of the individuals who have been taken into custody. This critical period allows the commission to thoroughly process initial findings, evaluate evidence, and decide whether to formally name suspects and proceed with legal charges.
This particular sting operation in Riau represents the sixth such action undertaken by the KPK throughout 2025, signaling an intensified drive against corruption across various sectors. The commission has maintained a relentless pace in its efforts this year, conducting a series of high-impact operations that have garnered significant public attention.
The year 2025 commenced with the first KPK sting operation in March, targeting members of the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) and officials from the Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) Office in Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, South Sumatra. This was followed by the second OTT in June, which focused on alleged bribery schemes related to road construction projects within the Public Works and Spatial Planning Office of North Sumatra Province and the National Road Implementation Work Unit Region I North Sumatra.
A third significant operation unfolded from August 7-8, 2025, spanning multiple locations including Jakarta, Kendari (Southeast Sulawesi), and Makassar (South Sulawesi). This multi-city raid was linked to an alleged corruption case concerning a regional general hospital construction project in East Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi. The fourth OTT of the year occurred on August 13, 2025, in Jakarta, investigating alleged bribery associated with cooperation in forest area management. Finally, the fifth operation centered on alleged extortion in the processing of K3 certification at the Ministry of Manpower, notably implicating Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan, who served as the Deputy Minister of Manpower at the time.
