2. 2022 to 2023

After importing 200.000 tons of rice at the end of 2022, the stock of Government Rice Reserves (CBP) belonging to the Logistics Business Entity Public Company (Perum Bulog) is currently, as of Tuesday (3/1/2023), at the level of 765.000 tons.

Current Situation of Rice Stocks in Bulog

The Corporate Secretary of Perum Bulog, Awaludin Iqbal, stated that this amount included the rice stock currently controlled by Perum Bulog, including 500.000 tonnes of imported rice which was still on its way to ports in Indonesia.

"An overview of CBP stocks currently owned by Bulog is 765.000 tons, plus 9.000 tons of commercial rice. "Bulog's total stock is 774.000 tons," said Iqbal on Tuesday (3/1/2023).

Iqbal also explained that the import target of 200.000 tons of rice in December 2022 had been realized and all of it had entered Indonesia. However, not all of these supplies have entered the Perum Bulog warehouse because bad weather hampered the unloading process.

"We are facing problems due to high waves and rain, so a small number of rice import ships have not been able to dock," he said.

If the 500.000 tons of stock still in transit is not included in the calculation, CBP's current stock is only around 265.000 tons or 22 percent of the minimum stock limit of 1,2 million tons.

Concerns regarding depleting rice stocks in recent months have been in the spotlight due to differences in stock and supply data between stakeholders.

For this reason, the government through the National Food Agency (Bapanas) in collaboration with the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs (Kemenko Ekonomi), the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), and the Ministry of Trade are preparing to implement a national rice stock survey at the end of 2022.

This step was taken to obtain more up-to-date and accurate national rice stock data to maintain an accurate national rice policy at the end of 2022 and 2023.

Head of Bapanas, Arief Prasetyo Adi, stated that the national rice stock survey is an important part of strengthening food governance, especially regarding national rice management, because this survey will produce rice stock data at the end of 2022 which will be used as a reference for calculating the 2023 food balance.
