The number of puppets in the collection at the Wonogiri Wayang Museum is 200. The collection also contains a picture of Semar by Ki Djoko Sutedjo, which is 3 cm by 3 cm.

Inventory of the Wonogiri Indonesian Puppet Museum Collection

In 2022, the Indonesian Wayang Museum in Wuryantoro Wonogiri Regency will organize the collection and make it accessible to the public. The target is for the second quarter of 2022, data collection must be completed no later than the latest.

Head of the Culture Division of the Wonogiri Education and Culture Service (Disdikbud), Eko Sumarsono, admitted that the data collection or inventory program was carried out in 2020. At that time, there happened to be students interning at Indonesian Wayang. Museum.

“The inventory program is still being planned and has not yet started. However, money has been set aside for it this year (i.e. in 2022). We not only record the names of the characters, but also the circumstances and images.

This will be the first time a collection of damaged puppets has been discovered at the Wayang Museum. Eko believes the collection was damaged because it was exposed to direct sunlight. The Indonesian Wayang Museum takes the museum collection more seriously now that these results have been made.

The results of these efforts were then used as a collection catalog book. Eko said, "because we don't have a collection catalog yet."

Since 2017, the person in charge of the Cultural Sector of the Wonogiri Education and Culture Service has ensured that the Indonesian Wayang Museum has received special allocation funds in the form of operational assistance for museums and cultural parks for the last two years.

As a result, we have to rely on special allocation funds to help us keep the collection running smoothly. "The right momentum is also after we have completed collecting data on the collection into the catalogue," added Eko.

Asked about the continued use of special allocated funds to help the activities of the Indonesian Wayang Museum, Eko said that until the end of 2021 it would still be limited to learning programs about the museum and holding competitions related to the museum.

He gave an example in October 2021, when PPKM in Wonogiri dropped to level two, and new contests dared to be held even though they were still limited. “There is a little puppeteer competition, a young puppeteer competition, and a puppet drawing competition.

Yesterday, when it opened to the public, many were curious. "But because they were still worried about the COVID-19 outbreak, initially it was only for local people," he continued.

Still in the process of collecting data and procuring activities using money obtained from the special budget allocation of the Directorate General (Dirjen) of Culture, in 2022 the Indonesian Wayang Museum will hold a wayang making workshop and a music festival. "That's our goal to get people interested in this museum," said Eko further.

Eko was confused when asked about the start date for the community competition. "What is known is that in the second quarter of 2022, we will initially concentrate on collecting inventory. "Right now we are still waiting for the COVID-19 pandemic scenario," concluded Eko.
