rancakmedia.com – An earthquake measuring 7,1 magnitude rocked North Sulawesi (Sulut) in the early hours of Thursday (12/8). The epicenter of the earthquake was at sea, 267 kilometers (Km) southwest of Melonguane District, Talaud Regency, North Sulawesi.

An earthquake measuring 7,1 m shook North Sulawesi without the potential for a tsunami. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 51 km, precisely at 6.14 North Latitude and 126.74 East Longitude. The earthquake vibrations were first felt at 00.46 WIB.

Until now there have been no reports regarding damage or casualties due to the earthquake. "Be careful of possible aftershocks," said BMKG. Initially, on Thursday (5/8) last week, an earthquake occurred 127 km northeast of Melonguane. At that time, the earthquake had a magnitude of 5,1.

An earthquake measuring 7,1 m shook North Sulawesi without the potential for a tsunami. The areas that felt the Melonguane earthquake were on the MMI IV scale in Talaud, II-III in Sangihe, and II-III in Bitung. It is not yet known whether there were any victims or damage from this earthquake.

The MMI IV scale means that if it occurs during the day it is felt by many people inside the house, outside by several people, pottery breaks, windows/doors creak and walls make noise.

Scale III vibrations are felt clearly in the house. I felt a vibration as if a truck was passing by. Scale II vibrations were felt by several people, light objects hanging swaying.
