Apple Officially Announces M1 Ultra, two M1 Max in one

Rancakmedia.com – The official announcement of Apple M1 Ultra, a processor that outperforms M1 Max was launched at WWDC by Apple, surprising many technology enthusiasts. Because the M1 Max has only been Apple's fastest processor for a few months.

Apple stated, to develop a processor that is more powerful than the M1 Max is a very significant effort. The M1 Ultra is made by combining two M1 Max processors into one processor.

UltraFusion architecture is the name given to the stitching technology used by these two CPUs. They say it's the first time in the business that it's combining two processors into one new processor. Apparently, AMD accomplished this a few years ago and it has slipped their minds.

Apple promises that the interprocessor bandwidth speed of this single processor will reach 2.5TB/s. In theory, they said, this technology would provide great performance using very little energy.

Apple claims there are 114 billion transistors in its processor. And by incorporating two M1 Max processors into the M1 Ultra, customers will also receive memory bandwidth capabilities at 800GB/s.

In addition, users will also get a computer or laptop with 128GB RAM Unified Memory. Of course, this is quite a large amount of RAM for an ARM-based processor.

Apple M1 Ultra Specifications

As for the full specifications, the M1 Ultra will feature a total of 20 CPU cores consisting of 16 high-performance cores with 48MP L2 cache and 4 high-efficiency cores with 8MB L2 cache.

For the GPU, this processor supports a GPU with a total of 64 cores, which has 8192 execution units and 21 teraflops. On the other hand, there are also a total of 32 Neural Engine cores which can handle 22 trillion operations per second.

And in terms of power, they say that the M1 Ultra has 90 percent more performance with 100W less power when compared to a desktop processor with 16 cores, which is a very big claim.

In terms of performance, Apple says its GPU is on par with the biggest desktop discrete GPUs while using 200W less power. However, they do not indicate what GPU they are using for comparison.

Finally, it seems that they are still using 5nm manufacturing technology for their own products. The M1 Ultra's manufacturing partner is said to be TSMC, which has a long history of working with the company. These processors will be found in a number of high-end Macs, including the latest Mac Studio as well.

Conclusion

The M1 Ultra is made by combining two M1 Max processors into one processor. Apple claims this is the first time in the business that it has combined two processors into one new processor. This processor will be found in a number of high-end Macs, including the latest Macbook Pro.
